FUNERAL SERVICES

Wellesley Parish Church is situated on Wellesley Road in Methil, and is the Parish Church for the Methil area. Our Minister, Gillian Paterson, is here to serve everyone in this area, and not just the members of our Church. We appreciate that this is a very difficult and sad time for you, and as your local church we want to help in whatever way we can.

Gillian believes strongly that every Funeral Service should be a tribute to the life of your loved one, and she will spend a great deal of time with you to learn all about their life, interests, hobbies and what they enjoyed doing. Every Funeral Service is individually written to capture the personality and life of the person and will pay full tribute to them.

Gillian selects readings and poems that link to the life of your loved one, and will include any personal choices that you have made. Similarly, you can choose the music that you feel reflects their life and interests. If you wish you can have hymns as part of the Service, but these are not essential if this is not what you would wish to have.

Along with Gillian we have a Pastoral Assistant, Margaret Rae who also conducts Funeral Services. Margaret provides the same personal service to families and has the same belief as Gillian, that the Funeral should be a fitting tribute to someone you love.

Services:

Gillian and Margaret will conduct a Funeral Service at the Crematorium, Parlour, Graveside or in our Church. We have a side area called the McKinlay Transept which is suitable for a small funeral ceremony, or you can have a service in the main Church will can hold up to 500 people. Both of these areas are available to you, and we can provide an organist or you can have CD music played.

After the Funeral:

Our experience shows that it is often in the weeks and months after the funeral is over, that people find the hardest. We will help you in whatever way we can. Firstly, we have a Bereavement Support Group that meets on the first Wednesday of every month for an informal lunch in the church hall. This is a way of meeting with people in a similar situation to you. We also have a team of support visitors who can call to see you every few weeks for a chat. You can be assured that everything you discuss is confidential and is not discussed in any other forum.

Service of Remembrance

Every year, on the first Sunday in December, Gillian conducts a service that remembers our loved ones. You will receive an invitation to come along to this service which lasts for about an hour, and is a quiet reflective service with songs, prayers and a time for remembrance that includes the lighting of a candle for your loved one.

Each Sunday in December the Church is open in the afternoons for families to visit and view our Book of Remembrance that has the names of all those who have passed away in it. They are inscribed by a calligrapher and are updated once a year.
